Minnesota has strict final pay requirements. For discharged employees, wages are due immediately upon demand. If no demand is made, wages must be paid within 24 hours. Willful failure to pay final wages can result in penalties of up to 15 days' additional wages.
Under Minnesota law, accrued vacation is considered earned wages. If your policy provides for vacation accrual, you must pay out unused time upon separation. Use-it-or-lose-it policies are not permitted for accrued vacation. Employers can cap accrual amounts but cannot forfeit already-accrued time.
